As I Lay Me Down to Sleep

Actually....
Twas the night before, the night before, the night before Independence Day
And all through the house
Not a creature was stirring
Except the dog and the cat and the people because my white trash neighbors find it necessary to set off fireworks for a week leading up to the 4th of July! WHY!?!

Only 5 days until AVC. I'm pretty excited. It's like the first quiz of the season to see that the winter homework hopefully paid off.

I get to be famous for one day. It's like having a second birthday

Check out this giant article in The Columbian from today.

Thanks for reading and thanks everyone for your support. I'm excited about this season. Last weekend I earned 3rd place in the 500m.TT and 2nd in the match sprint. Jen got the double gold in these two events. I'm not worried. She's riding super awesome right now and I'm on a different schedule. This month it's all about leg speed and keeping the power in the gym. The two don't get to mix just yet.

Selling T-Shirts and Stuff

So, I wore one of my favorite homemade t-shirts to the track tonight and got some reaction. It will soon be for sale at my CafePress shop. For now, buy one of these sweet garments. Check out the link on the right margin. You KNOW you want to. Profits from each sale goes directly to the replenishment of my life savings after the purchase of my ticket to Sydney to race my bike. Tell your friends! You don't have to make them read the blog- just send them the link to the t-shirts. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Early AM Gym Time

Ok, maybe you go to the gym at 5:00 am all the time. Today was my first day to venture into the muscle maker place in the wee hours. By this evening, it feels like it wasn't even today. Why did I do it? Sometimes I have 2 workouts in one day. And in order to avoid going to the gym and then racing an hour later... sacrifices to that last hours of sleep must be made.

There was an interesting character at the gym. She skipped to everywhere she was going. She skipped to the drinking fountain, she skipped from one machine to another across the room, she skipped to and from the locker room. She just skipped. The thing is, she was lifting some decent weights. Maybe she was keeping her heart rate up. Maybe she just liked to... skip.

Back to the Grind

Well recovery week was great. On Monday, I got on the new track bike for a fit with Dean at Bike Central (best track bike place.) Tuesday I went to the gym and did my leg workout. I graduated to a heavier weight on my squats. Feel pretty good about that. Wednesday got my hair did and had dinner with Heather and Aaron. Thursday, I took my new baby out on the track. My oh my- shorter cranks feel much different. Narrower bars are a bit kooky too, but I think I'm gunna like! Friday I thought about going to the gym, but went went home instead and took the boys to happy hour at Beaches. I never get to go to Friday happy hour, so it was fun. Today felt great to get back on the track and roll it.

I'm looking forward to the hard work leading up to AVC in just 4 weeks. Rumor has it that many sprinter women are coming up for the race, which is awesome!

3 Cool Things

1. It's a recovery week. It's probably the last full recovery week I get until...late October.

2. New track bike is here. The frame looks like this. but with different fork...and chain and seat stays. I'll have real photos soon. Dean Reed at Bike Central, which is the BEST bike shop for track racers in the whole world, is putting it together and we'll do a fit this week.

3. Reporter from The Columbian Newspaper (greater Vancouver area) just called. I have an interview in a few days for a story they're going to run about me just before AVC. Cool.

The Blinker

So... REALLY! What is with the driver that leaves their blinker on with no intention of turning anywhere? This has happened 3 times this week. And the most amazing part is that when they turn... it's opposite the direction that their blinker indicated. How can you ignore the "ticky...ticky...ticky...ticky...ticky....ticky....." sound your car is making!

Just had to vent.
